Venue users rejoice! With the new Venue 3.0 system and FireWire update, the SC48 console can be used as a 32x32 I/O device to drive SMAART.
With a Macintosh, after you update the Venue software and install the FW driver update, select "Pro Tools Aggregate I/O" as your Play Back and Input Device in the Audio MIDI Setup under Utilities in the Applications folder. Then select "Use" Avid VENUE SC48 32x32. When you configure a measurement in SMAART, select "CoreAudio: Avid VENUE FWx32" as your device. You will see all 32 channels available.
Use the "Directs" tab in the VENUE patch bay to assign signal to SMAART from the console using the Pro Tools tab. For ex: you have an RTA Mic analogue in ch 30, and have selected ch 30 to be the measurement channel in SMAART. Under the ProTools assignments, assign channel 30 to PT 30 and turn on direct output on the channel strip for input 30. Furthermore, you can use any channel on the console for the mic input, as long as you assign it to 1-32 in the Pro Tools patch bay and enable the direct output of that channel.
Big thanks to Sheldon @Avid and Sandy Imperatrice @ Event Production Group for letting me play with his console.
The Signal Generator in SMAART can also be routed through the SC48 to any channel VIA the the patch bay.
