The Firebox worked OK for a couple of months and then I started to have problems like the audio out suddenly becoming very distorted, the computer becoming very slow or not starting properly with the Firebox connected. I bought a Rain Computing Express card adapter, that didn't make any difference. So I have been muddling by using my USB Pre as backup when the Firebox fails. Then today the 1394 driver suddenly disappeared. I reinstalled it and things are working.
Another problem I have had is the Firebox control software does not control the Firebox. Not a big deal until the Firebox accidentally unplugs and you get a feedback loop from the mic inputs to the output! I have pretty much given up on this box and will try to avoid Firewire with Windows in the future. I am thinking about getting the Roland Octo Pre.
I am definitely hooked on multiple mics and I have a Smaart Live group configured in "SIM emulation" mode - room and EQ in the top window and result in the bottom window.
