Yep, 4x the largest dimension of a loudspeakers is a good rule of thumb to get far enough away from a loudspeaker to be in the far field.
Impedance sweeps (with a known trace showing a "good" speaker) show a host of speaker defects. A very powerful tool!
Yep, use a USB interface to get audio in and out, but the cables that hook up to the interface somewhat limits the portability of having a tablet and going anywhere in the venue to do measurements,...
I guess the bigger question is how do you plan to get audio going in and out of the tablet?
I hear ya, when v7 first came out the unwrapped phase dancing bothered me as well until I understood what I was looking at. The *same* phase data is being presented whether wrapped or unwrapped,...
Gary, do a search on "phase wrap" here on the forum. In one of the threads:

I very rarely use phase trace unwrapped when optimizing a loudspeaker system. There are several things that one looks for when examining a phase trace:
1. The slope of the phase curve, which...
There are already a few videos here:

It's been discussed before. The challenge in putting together online training is the amount of time involved in...
Because of this:
To quote Davis & Patronis: "Fc coincides with the dimension of the room equal to the lowest wavelength that can fully develop across that dimension." (p 178, Sound System...
They don't give up too easily!!! :)

Hi Colin,
Odd stuff! Though tonight I figured out an oddity with my Octacapture that has only happened recently....
My setup identical to yours. Went to do an optimization session, wanted to...
Hi gluis,
Sorry I haven't responded sooner, been really busy here! Anyway to answer your question, below that critical frequency, in an enclosed space, the room behaves like a giant bowl of jello,...
Maybe do a dual solution. Those with a valid checksumed serial number to Smaart or answer a challenging couple of questions are automatically granted access. Those who don't need manual approval...
Make the questions more challenging? :)
Why not automatically prequalify new users with an audio or rational specific question? Most of these spammers will have no clue about audio, and won't be bothered to do the necessary research.
...
Could it be that your coherence threshold is set too high to show all the data? Post a screenshot of what you're seeing.
Maybe, I know the forum has recently been hit with spammers, so they may have clamped down on what new users can do.
Maybe you can post your question here, and the administrators can move the...
Rasmus, you should get their OMW2 windscreens, I have them for all my Earthworks measurement mics to protect them from damage or getting rained on! Works great for outdoor events!...
If you're using MTW, it's 1 Hz or better in resolution from 20 Hz to 140 Hz. Do a capture of a trace, export it as ASCII, then have a look at the datafile and the resulting resolution!
However,...
Actually I meant the shell/housing of the microphone itself. However you're right, the soft sided carrying case is really nice, something the other similar mics don't have. The few Apex 220's I get...
Yep! All polarity flipped, but really, as long as you know what's going on, and all your mics are the same polarity, does it make a difference? No. It's one manufacturer in Asia that makes this...
And it's impossible to modify the mic inside for pin 2 hot...I tried, but failed. You would have to redesign the circuit board! For an inexpensive test mic, it's a compromise you need to live with!...
Hi Dennis, sorry I haven't had the opportunity to respond sooner, been really busy with work since the beginning of the month, I'm trying to catch up on lots of stuff.
You can find the X Curve in...
Yep, it's the standard X curve used in setting up cinema sound systems. Essentially you apply the weighting curve to your measurement engine(s), then eq for a "flat" response. You can import your...
