For those that might be wondering ... The USBPre isn't supported for Windows 7 or 64 bit. I installed Windows 7 XP Mode and was able to install SMAART 6 and the USBPre withing the virtual PC. The virtual PC run mode is Windows XP service pack 3 which is running 32bit.
It also doesn't require a new boot or anything ... you can jump from Windows 7 64bit right into the XP mode on your desktop.
So the voodoo around Windows 7 64bit and the USBPre not working has been lifted a little.

I have an i7 laptop with W7 64bit and find the virtual XP useless. It's limited to one core - or in my case one thread in one core since the hyperthreading processor appears to the OS as 8-core, the graphics are limited to 1024x768, 16 bit and the whole thing just feels very sluggish. I guess turning hyperthreading off could help the performance, but the other limitations are just awful.
